Spring Walks in Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire

Boats on the River Thames. Photograph taken by Chris LoveThe Vale of White Horse offers a variety of activities including walking, cycling, horse riding and boating on the River Thames.  For the more adventurous there are a number of unforgettable walks through tranquil countryside including:

The Ridgeway National Trail: This is Britain's oldest road and covers a total distance of 87 miles (139 km)  from Overton Hill to Ivinghoe Beacon.  This is a long distance trail from Overton Hill to Ivinghoe Beacon which follows the ancient chalk ridge used by pre-historic man.  The Vale of White Horse section of the Ridgeway is steeped in history with Iron Age forts and Bronze Age burial chambers.

D'Arcy Dalton Way: From Wormleighton near Banbury to Wayland's Smithy with a total distance of 66 miles, this walk connects the Oxford Canal, the Oxfordshire Way, the Thames Path and the Ridgeway with the North Wesses Downs.

Thames Path: This is a long distance trail which follows England's best known river from its source to the sea.  The Thames flows around the Vale border from Lechlade to Culham.

Why not combine a walk around White Horse Hill with a visit to the Vale and Down Museum in Wantage followed by tea in Madisons Tea Rooms?  Those less able will be able to explore using the many access-friendly routes across the Vale and at places of interest.
