Pathfinders Canoe Club

Pathfinders Youth Canoe Club provides kayaking and canoeing opportunities for young people from 11 to 18 years.The club meets at the club site in Wilsham Rd. Abingdon most Monday evenings between April and September. Club nights involve river trips on the Thames, Ock and backwaters as well as white water training on local weirs. They also train members for the British Canoe Union Awards.

Day and weekend trips are arranged to various locations such as the Nene Whitewater Centre at Northamptonand the more challenging River Tryweryn in North Wales. For those with suitable experience winter paddling trips on the Welsh whitewater rivers are arranged. There is also the opportunity to take part in small local events. They develop freestyle and whitewater racing. This year they plan to take a small group to paddle whitewater rivers in the Julian Alps of Slovenia.

Many of their members go on to make paddling a lifetime opportunity going on to paddle rivers in the Alps, Turkey, Nepal, Uganda and other parts of the world. The club is run by qualified B.C.U.Coaches and all sessions are supervised by coaches or suitably  experienced adult kayakers.

Abingdon Rowing Club was established in 1958 to exploit one of the best stretches of water on the River Thames. The distance from end-to-end is some 3,800m which remains relatively free of river traffic, even during the summer months. In this, the club's 50th year, the club is hoping to invest in new facilities, equipment and coaching support to provide a training unique training environment for everyone from recreational rowers to athletes with ambition.

The Club caters for members of all ages who train between 1 and 6 days per week depending upon their aims, aspirations and commitments. In 2007 the Club competed at regattas all over the country and winning over 40 events including medals at the National Schools Regatta, National Veteran Championships and National Rowing Championships of Great Britain
