‘A Sense of Place’ is the first solo exhibition by Fine Art graduate, Michele Wallington. Michele has loved drawing since she was a child, thanks to the encouragement of her mother who was both an artist and picture restorer. However, Michele herself didn’t start to paint seriously until later in life.
She explains, “It may be a cliché but reaching forty was definitely a turning point! After spending several years in Cornwall renovating property, I returned to Oxfordshire with my family and finally embarked on a Fine Art degree course. I graduated last summer. Painting was not especially encouraged on my course but I learnt a great deal about other artists. I also had some fantastic opportunities to indulge my passion for drawing and made several trips, both at home and abroad, visiting galleries. Since graduating, I have been able to continue painting and developing my own way of working. I particularly enjoy experimenting with different media to find ways of expressing what inspires me. Subjects that particularly capture my imagination are places that possess a unique quality or sense of atmosphere and I try to convey that in my work.”
Michele’s show will focus on places that have inspired her including the wilds of Dartmoor and the north coast of Cornwall.
Over the next year, Michele plans to develop and experiment with her style of painting and hopes to find opportunities to inspire others by teaching art.
